Artist's Statement

Reflection is about seeing the world from a different perspective that we are not accustomed to. Through the beauty of nature and the world's architecture, you will get the chance to experience an inner reflection of what it is to be human. The silhouette of a person, for the most part, will be the anchor of all the images creating a scene that's more like a dream than reality, only existing in mind. Allowing for anything to go and be made, but in fact, the only forces at work are those that shape our world. My work seeks to understand the meaning of having something but feeling that we can lose it in a blink of an eye like a forest or a building; nothing lasts forever. Seeing things in a dreamy state can allow us to understand what we can lose if we do not take action.

We live in a time where we go on with our everyday routine, forgetting about everything that keeps us living. Through my Double exposure photography, I want to remind people that we can tell a story even if it does not look like anything at first. For instance, artists like Kara Walker tell stories through her silhouette characters; they might not have a face, but one can understand what she is trying to convey.

My compositions are created through double exposure using nothing more than my 50mm film camera converted to digital media format. Sometimes, life can be chaotic, and we can't tell what the next day will bring about. When I took these double exposures, I let chance decide the outcome of my images since, in reality, I didn't know how the photos would come out because my camera is old and does not have a screen to show me a preview. My goal is not to change peoples' thoughts but to awaken them through the use of nature and buildings architecture that we take for granted but that play a role in moving forward. We either are the creators or the destroyers.
