Artist's Statement

Haven is a video installation that utilizes projection mapping and music to create a meditative experience. The images of clouds, mountains, a sunrise, and palm trees were chosen because of their calming qualities in nature. The piece itself is about slowing down and finding things that are peaceful in this world that is full of stress and negativity. Each of the images have a slight rgb shift and edge smear that I was able to create in after effects and through a website application called Photomosh. These effects make the images appear as if they are moving. Each image has their own song that plays when projected. In order to create the music, I had to turn the images into wavelengths using a plugin in Ableton, a software used to compose music. With these wavelengths, I was able to extract individual notes to create four unique songs.
