Artist's Statement

I was born and raised on my family's ranch located in Winters, California. I have gained an appreciation for being surrounded by agriculture all my life. The appreciation such as knowing the time and effort it takes to be a part of that kind of lifestyle. For starters, not always being present. Watching my grandfather growing up continuously working long days on the ranch in the orchards, the fields, and working on equipment didn't give me much time to spend with him.
To show my appreciation through my photography, I am creating a series called, “Bei Ranch Abstraction” that will show images of more abstract pieces of equipment, tools, and anything that belonged to my grandfather that is still located on my family's ranch. I not only want to show my appreciation towards my grandfather and agriculture, but also towards my home. This piece of property isn't just where I've lived all my life, its history.
Abstraction is something I have never really dove into for a form of art. I am stepping out of my comfort zone and showing a different side to my skills. When I thought about doing this, I walked around my Property about ten times until I knew what I wanted to capture. When doing so, I found objects that I never realized we had that were his. Some had his handwriting such as, notes, scribbles, or even his initials. Finding these were so special because I felt like he is still here on our property walking around keeping an eye on us.
Dozier Bei passed away about three years ago now, a WWII Veteran, Farmer and a loving Grandfather.
