Artist's Statement

Home Away From Home is a series of photographic portraits of people who have made San Jose feel like home to me. I am originally from San Diego, California and I moved to San Jose at the age of 17 to pursue my education in photography. I made a bold decision to move to a new city where I did not know one person. Everything felt like it was going well until I was performing poorly in my academics which also negatively affected my mental health. Because of this, I made the decision to move back home to San Diego. Fortunately, I was able to obtain a couple associates degrees to transfer back to San Jose State University to finish my BFA in Photography. I met so many people along the way but these nine individuals hold a very special place in my heart. This series serves as an appreciation to those who have supported me and have not doubted me along my journey in San Jose.
Fabiola, Alejandra, Monica, Elizabeth, Gloria, Mike, Jason, Jayla, and Noel.
Thank you all for making a huge impact in my life.
You all are my home away from home. ♥
