My photography engages with themes of American culture, politics, addiction, car culture, natural landscapes, and wildlife. As an observer, I aim to capture candid moments that bridge my world with the lives of my viewers. Through my lens, I explore contemporary material conditions, cultural identity, environmentalism, and society's progression toward inclusivity and progressive ideals. I aspire to deepen my experience in journalistic and documentary photography, using the medium to articulate my political beliefs and worldview.

For my BFA show, Threads of Diversity, I depicted everyday Californians as they navigate public life. The series is a group of large-scale images printed on canvas fabric, representing modern tapestries of daily Californians in the South Bay Area and surrounding cities. This format symbolizes the diverse and interconnected lives that define America, and specifically, within the South Bay and the surrounding San Francisco Bay Area. Street photography, capturing candid pictures of strangers on the streets, is essential to this project, allowing me to represent the broad demographic range of San Jose and the Bay Area through my eyes. My work bridges documentary photography and fine art in order to represent this broad demographic.

These photos are printed in black and white, representing how these colorful cultures weave together to form a new, unified identity through the Bay Area, with the starkly contrasted post-processing “threshold” technique amplifying the thought of our emerging Bay Area culture having no one color or shade to represent us all. Inkjet images printed onto canvas fabric are representative of the tight-woven communities of our locale. Colored thread is strung between each image to represent this interconnectivity and connection, as well as the varying, colorful cultures that influence the larger Bay Area community. There is an interweaving in our community where these broadly contrasting cultures tie together into a new social fabric in America. This series is a statement on the beauty and strength of diversity. Through this series, I aim to amplify the voices of these everyday Californians in the face of a society that demonizes diversity and its benefits.
