Artist's Statement

This body of work began unintentionally. Throughout my photography practice, I often used my family members as my subjects. At first, it was simply convenient — they were the people around me every day. They became my models because they were accessible and comfortable.

Over time, though, it stopped feeling like just a practical choice. It became something I genuinely loved doing. Spending time with my family is part of my daily life, and photography naturally blended into that space. I began taking candid photos of them — not overly posed or staged, but real moments that reflected their personalities. The way they laugh, focus on small tasks, or sit comfortably in their own environment — those are the moments that feel most honest to me.

My practice centers around documenting these everyday interactions. I am drawn to natural light and familiar settings because they reflect the softness and warmth I associate with home. By photographing my family in these candid moments, I aim to capture not just how they look, but who they are. What began as a practical solution gradually became something much more meaningful. Through photographing my family over time, I realized how much their presence shapes both my life and my work. They are not just my subjects — they are the foundation of who I am.

Because of Them is both a continuation of my photographic practice and a personal acknowledgment. The people who once simply “modeled” for my projects have become the heart of my work. Through these images, I honor their personalities, their love, and the everyday moments we share.
