All of the work in this show is about me, including the landscapes and the paintings of other people. The experience you have of life rarely involves the image of you as much as it involves who and what surrounds you.

Most imagery in my work is metaphorical to distill complicated experiences, sensations, and concerns into pure visuals. Typically, I work quickly and leave things somewhat “unfinished” to frame work as something captured as it was happening. Many pieces also have a sense of ambiguity or are purposefully obfuscated to emphasize the intensity of emotion rather than any specifics. For example, “Plausible Deniability” is all about dancing around something without saying it, so it has tons of symbols, but all of the text is nigh unreadable. The “MINE” series, all drawings of the Almaden Quicksilver Mines, where my indigenous side of the family is from, is drawn with smudged, hazy, charcoal to show the disenfranchised connection to the location.
