Artist's Statement

The Contour of a Man is a collection of 12 images, which acts as a celebratory re-interpretation of the masculine figure. This project presents a considered and unapologetic observation of the male body, moving outside of normative expectation.

The work explores a conceptual duality through the external physical environment and the internal emotional landscape. The images showing my body on a white background emphasize a pure, unedited body. The white images create a sense of external observation, distancing the body experience structurally as well as emotionally, highlighting the lines of the body and contours through light and shadow. The images incorporating a deep blue invite an emotional depth and psychological complexity. The blue images transition the gaze inward, exposing the internal experience of the subject and their vulnerability.

In stepping away from societal expectations, I bring the beauty, humanity, and fragility of the body into my work. The images aim to present the viewer of the entire experience of feeling comfortable through the external architecture of the body juxtaposed with the internal emotional landscape, This juxtaposition completes the narrative with the acknowledgement and acceptance of the body both entirely physical and emotional. The Contour of a Man is an immersion into the gentle strength of a body that is entirely seen, accepted, and honored, culminating in a critical moment of respect for the self.
