Artist's Statement
In today's fast-paced, online-stuck, capitalist society, it's not often that we allow ourselves to slow down and appreciate the beings that accompany us.
Essence of Life is an exhibition that celebrates my passion for appreciating nature in its physical, spiritual, and cellular forms of existence. From the larger landscape to living portals to under the microscope, I present to you an array of two-dimensional artwork describing the intrinsic nature of our world.
Essence of Life serves as a reminder to be inquisitive and appreciative of our surroundings as a way of grounding oneself. To look closer is something that can be taught and practiced, an action that requires intention, patience, and stillness; it has become my method to cope and find perspective in the most stressful of times, knowing that we are not strangers to nature and it does not exclude us. I allow this sense of peace to manifest in my work; the way I shade softly and slowly with my pencil mimics the soft and slow lifestyle that I so appreciate.
I invite you to interact and play with how my artwork and the natural, found objects are viewed by using the magnifying glass provided. Allow yourself to find peace in the presence of nature. Leave your devices behind and indulge in Earth's offerings for a moment. Take a breath to release the capitalist expectations from your shoulders, and continue onward as you carry an aura of peace instead.
