Artist's Statement

The Feeling of Falling explores resilience and makes space for processing memories and emotions that are uncomfortable, intrusive, destabilizing—and unavoidable. I create forms as a way to pause and process the world by blurring the weight of reality and creating suspended stillness where the viewer finds bliss in relinquishment. I push away emotions, trying to move forward, not allowing myself to dwell; however, what resists always persists.

The Feeling of Falling is indirectly a self-portrait, but I do not want my work to be the center of attention but rather a starting point to contemplate and process past emotions before moving forward. My work is surrealism combining traditional and non-traditional materials and exploring the tension between beauty and discomfort as a way to make space for individual and collective struggles. I work to create an atmosphere in which the viewer can acknowledge emotions before letting them go, not being confined to living in the past.
