Artist's Statement

I use art as an exploration into the microscopic world beyond our understanding and put into a visual context using color and texture and form. I believe the universe is a complex stream of endless worlds from the smallest molecules to our own universe. I want to provide my own context and understanding of these scientific and philosophical questions about the universe in order to further my own hypothesis that we are all made up of limitless energy and universes within ourselves. For my BFA Exhibition I am working with acrylics on canvas via typical paint tools such as brushes and palette knives as well as silk screen application via hand-cut stencils. I am using canvases sized 4' x 5'. I am using artist brushes and oil paints to combine elaborate colors and cylindrical shapes as well as familiar natural imagery to depict a microscopic world. I have come to terms with the fact that even though I am infinitely interested physics and astronomy as well as micro-biology I do not have the patience and the thought process to understand these subjects in scholarly terms. I am an artist first and foremost. When I think about the work I am going to create I like clear my mind as much as possible and focus on feeling and energy. I use paints on canvas in order to literally paint a picture I could otherwise not be able to put into words or express in most other mediums. I want to use the canvas as a window into the world I plan on creating for the viewer. I have decided to take my curiosity and subconscious understanding of energy and matter and combine that to demonstrate the nexus of the smallest atom to the largest galaxy.
