Artist's Statement
I am a Pictorial Artist who works in painting, drawing, and printmaking. In addition, my work crosses a range of mediums including; glass, newspapers, decaying wood, wire, and etc. This allows my work to explore the process of creating art in conjunction with my message. I create these multimedia works to express my fear and vulnerability of losing memory, developing it into a symbol of everlasting memory. An example of this is displayed in my piece, Anamnesis, which utilizes three dimensional bubbles combined with paintings, drawings, and photographs based on the idea of the breath and fragility of memory.
As I grow older, I have developed a fear of losing my memory. When I look upon pictures of my childhood, I cannot recall any of the moments that were taken. This work gives me the chance to investigate my connection with memory, and to come to peace with the fear of losing it. Anamnesis displays the expression and action of letting my fear go. Where the inhale of air is consuming the fear, and the exhale is bringing my mind to peace with the idea of losing my memory. Despite my ambition to stray away from this recurring theme, subconsciously I fall back into it within every drawing, painting, and print I make.
