Artist's Statement
The sunset, a daily marvel, has become the central theme of my art. I’ve created a series of seven oil paintings, each showcasing a unique sunset from different locations.
The number seven holds a special significance in this series, mirroring the days Of the week. It serves as a reminder of the rhythm of life, the passing of time, and the repetitive yet ever-changing beauty of the sunset. Each canvas encapsulates a distinct sunset, a daily occurrence that, despite its familiarity, never fails to inspire.
The sun with its radiant palette of colors, signifies the transitions from day to Night. It bathes the sky in a breathtaking array of red, orange, and purple hues, evoking a sense of closure and renewal. These sunsets, each from a different location, highlight the diversity of our world and the beauty that can be found in every corner of it.
My drawings delve into the paradox of the sun's presence, seemingly Within arm's reach yet impossibly distant, suspended in the boundless expanse of space. This portrayal of the sun's proximity and elusiveness is a reflection of the intricate dance between familiarity and distance that defines our relationship with the natural world.
In the ancient Chinese myth of “Kuafu Chasing the Sun,” Kuafu's relentless pursuit embodies the indomitable human spirit, the desire to reach for the unattainable and transcend our own limitations. Through my art, I seek to infuse this mythological narrative into the modern context, reminding viewers of the enduring connection between humanity and the natural world.
