Artist's Statement

It felt like there was one hindrance to overcome inorder to get over my issue with verbal communication. It took me years of academics and studying myself to realize communication goes far beyond the realm of vocalized words. I write out my own avenues of cognitive expressivity through my sculptures. I stuffed away my desire to be an artist to instead try to apply my artistry to what my family told me was my purpose. I never left those parts of me, they simply didn't pull my attention quite like the harsh words telling me I need to settle into the marital life that made sense on TV.

Step into my room to see cartoons and reality become one existence, but Beware! The Void. The Void creeps, crawls and pulls its way over everything, it takes the shadows as much as it takes the solace. An infestation of uncertainty fabricating this menace in its true form. A creature with an inclination for confiscating my own doubt and depression to ensure I abandon my ambition. Television and music trying to be taken by the void desperately pulling at my comforts.

Beware! The Void! is a series of pieces in which precise execution of my perceptions does not mean clean perfection. The rough textures and breaking material meld with soft edges to solidify my imagination. These works present the hours of TV consumption that time has turned into influence for my cartoonish style. Learning has grounded me in the notion that while ceramic is my chosen medium my style often pulls in fabrics and found items.
